Brake pads are what typically come to mind when you think of your vehicles braking system, but its only one of the many components of the brake system. Over time the brake pad material contacting the rotor will wear away eventually allowing the wear indicator to contact the face of the rotor causing the loud squeaking noise associated with brake repair. If allowed to go too long without replacement the backing plate can make contact with the rotor at which point the rotors would need replacement and could not be resurfaced.
Brake rotors are an integral part of the automotive braking system. Warping, hardening and heat spots can all affect your rotors ability to stop properly, so it is crucial to maintain them properly. Through many heating and cooling cycles rotors can warp, harden or develop hot spots which all lead to lack of braking power and a strong vibration while applying your brakes.
